Cushions from Kashmir - sold in Truro.

These cushions are imported and supplied by the House of Fabrics in Truro.

All the cushions are individually produced by hand.

The design is imprinted onto the fabric using a traditional method. Woolen threads are dyed using natural dyes where possible. These threads are stitched in chainstitch by hand onto the cotton fabric and a cotton backing is then appllied.

Kashmir is the north-western most state of India. Kashmir's many crafts refelct the states history, landscape and traditional way of life. The traditional values and the skills of the craftsmen who produce the finest quality chain stitch needlework in the world.

These skills skills are used to produce contemporary and abstract designs many influenced by the work of European artists.
All products are made by adults whose cooperative set their own rates to the work they do. At no stage of production are children involved. The work is not produced in a factory environment rather with in homes as a cottage industry.
